Most of my life, I have struggled. I have struggled to know God’s purpose for my life. Should I be a missionary? Should I teach or write? Should I go into ministry and if so, what one? Is being a wife and mother God’s plan for me?
In fear of doing the wrong thing, taking the wrong path, disappointing my husband, myself, my friends, and most importantly, God, I did nothing. I just lived my life and let daily events drive my actions. Of course, I tried to do the right things. I was kind to people I worked with, people I met, and anyone with whom I interacted. I did my best to be a good wife and mother, to help at church functions, sponsor children in other countries, and be a good friend.
Always though, I wondered if I was fulfilling God’s purpose for my life. Then I came across Oswald Chambers book, “My Utmost for His Highest” August 3rd entry and finally, it made sense to me why for all these years I struggled. Oswald says:
“We are not taken into a conscious agreement with God’s purpose – we are taken
into God’s purpose with no awareness of it at all…because we are too near
sighted to see the target at which He is aiming.”
God is big. Bigger than my small mind can comprehend. So why would I, in my smalless, even think for a moment I know what God is thinking? What His intentions are for my life? I can’t.
So, what am I to do? How am I to live my life without knowing for what purpose I was created? The answer was staring me in the face. Rather than living my life looking for a purpose, I need to live my life on purpose.
Tony Evans puts it this way. “If you are Christian, you do not need to be running around trying to discover your purpose. Rather, it is in experiencing God that your purpose will be made known. Experience God and you will experience your purpose.”
What will you do today to experience your heavenly Father?
Just for Today – Take time to be in prayer and quietness to
experience your creator and let Him direct your path.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
