Enoch’s Faith was the title of Pastor Mike’s sermon today. Enoch is important enough to be mentioned in the bible. He has seven verses devoted to him. What can we learn in just seven verses? As it turns out, we can learn a lot from him.
Enoch was a seventh generation descendent in the line of Adam. He fathered Methuselah. He walked with God and then he disappeared because God took him. We do know from the book of Jude that Enoch was a prophet. He took seriously, God’s command to tell others about Him. Enoch did not walk in the way of the world. This doesn’t mean he never sinned. We know from Hebrews, that because of his faith, Enoch never saw death as we will see it. Instead, God took him up because he lived in a way that pleased God.
If you conform to this world, you can’t walk with God. Walking with God does not mean you don’t sin. It does mean you have a heart for Him. The bible doesn’t cover over the sins of the people God used.
- Moses was a murderer
- David was an adulterer and murder
- Jacob lied and stole Esau’s blessing
- Abraham lied and gave his wife to Pharaoh
God used these men and others despite their sins. We are all flawed. What if though, we all let down our facades and showed compassion for others? How different would our world be when others see their stories mirror ours? When we share the hope of the gospel with them?
What is it in this world you find more important than God? Our hearts fool us into believing sewage is more desirable than the mountain spring water Christ offers us. The cross Christ wants us to pick up is taking His word to others. What gift has He given you to help spread His word? Are you good at writing or speaking? Are you good at serving others? Maybe you have a talent for technology or for organizing events. We are all meant to be messengers for the gospel. We are given gifts t help us do so. Where one is weak, another is strong. We are meant to work together.
Enoch was a man of faith. He used his talents to take the message to others. Enoch’s testimony was his life. What will your testimony be?
