I heard a story on the news the other day. The gist of the story is that a young girl was given a 10-question quiz by her teacher. When she gets her quiz back, she is devastated and goes home crying. The young girl had gotten 9 out of the 10 questions wrong. The questions had all started with “What’s the first thing you would do when…” Her answer was “Pray.” How wonderful that this child has her priorities straight. It’s unfortunate her teacher does not.
Sadly, the story reminded me I am more like the teacher than the student. Frequently, I get so caught up in the activities of the day, I function on autopilot. This story is a great reminder that before all things I do, I need to stop and pray. My prayer may be for help, for healing, or simply a prayer of thanks and praise. We are told to pray without ceasing in the Bible.
Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.
Rom 12:12
Always be joyful. Never stop praying.
1The 5:16
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
Phi 4:6
Pray in the spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
Eph 6:18
Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.
Col 4:2
Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name.
Heb 13:15
This little girl gets it. She is a lesson and a reminder for me, and I pray she is for you as well.
Just for today, give pause and pray for each thing you do whether it is to ask for the Lord’s leading, His help, or just to say thank you!
My God bless you!
