I’ve just begun reading the book of Joshua. Most bibles begin each book with some type of summary covering relevant points of the book that follows. The HelpFinder bible begins the book of Joshua explaining how the Israelite people could win the land of Canaan and still lose their souls.
This made me think, how many times have I fought to win an argument with my husband only to realize after, I compromised myself just so I could be right? I exaggerated a point or something I said. I twisted the truth ever so slightly to make myself look better. I behaved in a mean spirited way knowing he would concede just to be done with the argument.
“Joshua learned that you win by do it God’s way.”
HelpFinder Bible, page 193
I won by doing it my way which means, I didn’t really win at all. In my ultimate defeat with my head hanging down in shame, I approached my husband, sincerely apologized, and asked for forgiveness.
How many times have I read the stories of the Israelites turning from God looking to themselves for answers, or to their idols for salvation, and trying to do things their way and wondered, “When are they going to learn?”
When am I going to learn?
“Our trust and obedience to him will lead us to victory. That is the essence of the book of Joshua. In this book,
we learn how to develop the courage that is necessary to be completely obedient to God.”
HelpFinder Bible, page 194
Just for today, let’s turn to God and do it his way, the right way, the only way.
Have a blessed day!
