Everyone has a story. You, me, our neighbors, our co-workers, people who work where we shop. We, however, aren’t always aware of what the stories are of those around us. As we spend time with others, we learn more about who they are – where they are from, what they do, their likes and dislikes. As we get to know them and share in their lives, we become a part of their story and they become a part of ours.

The story of God is found in the bible. When we read the bible, we get to learn about who He is, what He has done, what He plans to do and His likes and dislikes.

We grow in relationship with someone new as we spend time with them. We deepen our relationship with others as we share the celebrations and trials of life together.

We grow our relationship with God when we spend time in His word – the bible – getting to know Him. Coming to Him with our troubles, concerns, celebrations or even to sit quietly and just be in His presence will also deepen our connection with Him.

A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.
O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
Psalm 63:1

This is the most important relationship in our life. More important than our spouse, our children, parents, or siblings. These relationships are earthly ones – here for a time. Our relationship with God is eternal. It’s forever. Yet, it is the one to which we typically give the least amount of time and effort.

When we lose a loved one, no matter how much time we spent with him or her, we often wish we had spent more. No matter how many times we said, “I love you”, we wish we had said it just one more time.

When our life on earth comes to an end, let us make sure we’ve given God the time He deserves. Let us make sure we’ve shown Him how much we love Him.  Let’s deepen your relationship with Him now, here, on earth. Then when we stand face to face with God for the first time, we will stand with a Father we know and love and with no regrets.

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness,
and all these things will be added to you.
Matt 6:33

Just for today: As we write the story of our lives today, let’s make God the main character and ensure a happy ending.

Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”
Luke 10:38:42

May your week be blessed!
