God is amazing.

My mother left this world in 2003. I saw her today at the dinner theater my husband and I attend regularly. Today’s show was “Beautiful – a Tribute to Carol King.”

Before the show began, I ran to the restroom to wash my hands. An elderly woman had paused after washing her hands. As I turned and glanced at her, she commented she wished she had a toothpick. Believe it or not, I always carry toothpicks in my purse. As I looked at her face, I realized I was looking at my mother.

I commented on her uncanny resemblance to my mother and she replied, “Do you know how old I am? I am 97!” Born in April, she was just 6 months younger than my mom would have been if she was still alive.

This woman’s face was the softer, kinder version of my mother – my mother’s face none-the-less. I miss my mom. God gave me a moment with her today. He gave me the opportunity to know her in that moment as she would have been if her life had been different.

Tears came to my eyes.

I will never see this woman again. Yet, I will never forget the gift she and God gave me this day.

Just for today, see God’s gifts in the beautiful faces of strangers.

God bless!
