In just two days, our country will elect a new President. This election has been the most unusual, controversial, and polarizing of my lifetime. With each cycle, it seems misinformation, hostility, and bitterness grow stronger. People on both sides let emotions overshadow common sense, logic, and—even more troubling—the truth. In some cases, these differences have driven wedges between family, friends, and coworkers. It’s almost as if the enemy is winning a silent war: divide and conquer.
“Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.” — Matthew 12:25
Many people are anxious about the future. They wonder: *What will happen if the other side wins? Will there be riots? Will the economy collapse? Could we even face civil war—or worse?
Yes, these are genuine concerns. All of us will be affected by this change in leadership in some way. But regardless of who sits in the Oval Office, let’s remember who truly reigns in our hearts—King Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
In 1 Samuel 8, we read that the Israelites demanded a king to be like other nations. Although they had known God closely, they still wanted an earthly ruler. By making that choice, they rejected God’s kingship. We can fall into a similar trap when we become consumed with the outcome of an election, placing more faith in a political leader than in our heavenly Father. And like Saul—Israel’s first king—our leaders are bound to let us down, for they, too, are imperfect.
The ancient Jews had no voice in choosing their rulers. Their kings and governors were chosen for them. We, however, have the privilege of electing our leaders. So it’s our responsibility to do our homework, understand what each candidate stands for, and vote for the person we believe best represents our values.
Dr. James Merritt of Touching Lives reminds us:
“Every government is in power today because God either established that authority or allows it to be in place. When you acknowledge God’s order of authority, even if you don’t understand or agree, you align with His purposes.”
Ultimately, our trust must be in Jesus Christ, just as Jesus placed His trust in God the Father.
Just for today, let’s set aside our worries about who will be President. Instead, let’s focus on our true King—King Jesus—and all the blessings He has already given us.
May your day be blessed.
